Botanical Garden Wedding in Pittsburgh

There was a line in the bride’s vows that really struck me, and one that (I didn’t realize at the time) would set the tone for the entire evening. “… I promise that when our world starts spinning and our breath begins to shorten, to take your hand, go outside, and look up at the stars.” Macae and Ron’s wedding, set under a clear top tent shimmering with twinkle lights, was nothing short of magical. From the long white candles on the farmhouse tables to the glossy gold mirrors with handwritten menus, every corner reflected off of the next. Oh, and these two… the electricity between them couldn’t go unseen… a spark that was never-ending. Enjoy these moments from their special day, it truly was one-of-a-kind.

From the Bride:

I found Caitlin through the graces of social media, bored on our couch on a Saturday night, searching #pittsburghweddingphotographer on Instagram. As you can suspect, there were thousands of posts. All beautiful, many captured the look I was going for, but then, amongst the grid of flowers and tuxedos was a bride, standing alone on a long stone paved path, looking over her shoulder.. So elegant. So pure. It reminded me of a photograph that my grandmother keeps on her nightstand from her wedding day and I often wondered what bridal picture of mine would stand the test of the time. THIS PICTURE of this complete stranger was exactly how I wanted to be remembered. I knew I had to contact the photographer responsible with creating such magic.

Long story short, we booked Caitlin the week after for both our engagement session and wedding.
Engagement Session: Because I’m a big believer in good karma, I booked our engagement session for the dead of winter thinking that my fiancé and I would run around a field of snow and the pictures would look like a scene from a Christmas movie. Good news, the pictures were totally Hollywood-worthy but HOLY HECK, was it freezing. I knew we chose the right photographer when on a single degree (YEP SINGLE DEGREE) day, she was ready for anything. Caitlin spotted a stream that would be a great picture opp but was barricaded by a fence. She asked if we were up for it and because I just knew the final product would result in a great Save the Date wedding photo, all three of us climbed the fence and out and onto a rock so the freezing ice-coated water sparkled behind us. It was GOLD.

My fiancé hates getting his picture taken and Caitlin made us both feel so comfortable. Our photos turned out exactly how I imagined – flirty, fun, and truly showcased the excitement for this next chapter of our lives.

Boudoir Shoot: I didn’t book this originally because um… the idea of it is SCARY… but after meeting Caitlin and her ability to capture the simple beauty of people, and things, I thought – “Why the heck not! Eating all this kale should result in something!” I chose to do the boudoir shoot the day before our wedding. You definitely think I’m crazy but it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only did I have my hair and makeup done for our rehearsal dinner later that night but I have never felt more comfortable walking into our wedding pics. We shot the pictures in Caitlin’s studio which was styled with a beautiful white bed with a green garland draped in the background. If Pinterest did boudoir (maybe they do, I am nervous to search) this would be it. Trust me, book it.

Now, the big day! We booked Caitlin and her assistant, Courtney, for 10 hours. Both arrived when we were getting ready and captured every special moment. I’m serious. They were EVERYWHERE and nowhere at the same time. They blended with our family and friends so much so that I never noticed them but the end results were like they had a camera next to us – capturing moments that you think you can only describe… but alas, we have tangible evidence that they happened.

They truly captured magic. I know I know, so corny to say but when I looked through the final pictures (which arrived 1.5 months after the wedding, a record I hear compared to other photographers!) tears came to my eyes. She captured memories w we can't wait to share with our children and our children’s children. She truly captured our love and we will be forever grateful.

I've worked in Fayette, Greene, and Washington Counties in behavioral health and mobile therapy and recently came from Seton Hill Univ. in Greensburg, where I provided mental health counseling and alcohol and drug education, counseling, and programming. I'm excited to be back in Uniontown to join Momentum's quality services.

I've never dreaded going to work. Even during the more challenging times, I'm energized by my clients' strength - just coming in for therapy takes guts for many people. I'm honored to be present for them and be permitted to join someone's difficult life experience. I get to bring research, skills, and theory to our unique dynamic in session.

1.What sorts of things do you enjoy doing with your leisure time?

As a busy mom of two leisure time is not something that I know much about! I spend a lot of time with my children at their activities. However, I do enjoy many things in life! I enjoy cooking/baking for my family, reading, being outdoors whether biking or hiking. My most favorite things on being on the water, lake or beach, and running outside.

2. So tell us a little bit about what you do, the services you offer and where your located.

Our business is built on helping people. Each therapist that works in our office is passionate and cares about the individuals, couples, and families that they work with. What we do is listen, support, work with, and build each person up to be a better individual in all aspects of life. Our goal is to work hard, become confident in their learned skills, and move on to a better stage in life.

3. Aside from purposes of income, why do you do what you do? What do you enjoy most about your work?

I am a therapist because I have a passion for helping and listening to others. I have always enjoyed being a friend and a confidant. I now get the privilege to be that for many people. I most enjoy working with people who have been through trauma. I love watching a person transform as they fight through the pain and build the skills necessary to overcome their hardships. It is invigorating to watch how strong and determined people are!

4. Do you have a mission statement, or to put it more simply, do you have a mission in general when you think about completing your work?

My mission is to help affect change in others’ lives. My goal is to help as many people as I can in this short life that we live. I accomplish this by who I am and what I believe in. I am warm, caring, and invested. I believe all people can and will change if they want to. In my work, I utilize many different genres of therapy cognitive behavioral, trauma- focused cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused, and play therapy, and mindfulness. Our business in the past has given back on a smaller scale. We have at times done things for our clients to help meet their needs. Our business has also supported athletic teams in the past and present. We are currently in the planning stages of reaching the community in a bigger way. Bonnie's passion for the healing process and her strong skills set helps people live a more peaceful and productive life. Bonnie has an array of experience in the field and treats a wide range of emotional and mental-health needs. Johanna has a Master's in Art Education and is an Art Specialist at Momentum Couples & Family Therapy. In my spare time, I enjoy drawing, painting, and creating art with clay. I also like to hang out with my dog, Dash.

I have a BA in Studio Art from Penn State University. I received my Master’s Degree in K-12 Art Education from California University of Pennsylvania. I started graduate school at St. Mary-of-the-Woods in 2015, and I will graduate in 2018 with a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy with an emphasis in Counseling. I currently teach private art lessons, and have an office inside Momentum. I am also a commissioned portrait artist. Upon graduation, I will become an art therapist and licensed professional counselor.

3. Aside from purposes of income, why do you do what you do? What do you enjoy most about your work?

I love art, and have been drawing since I was in first grade. Teaching art is rewarding because I get to share my passion for art with my students and inspire them to create art. I enjoy working with children the most, because they have uninhibited creativity.

4. Do you have a mission statement, or to put it more simply, do you have a mission in general when you think about completing your work?

Mission: To help others express and better themselves by using art.

5. Is there any ways in which your business gives back to the community?

I am currently hosting a Paint and Sip in which all proceeds go to Jessica’s Journey- Kidney Transplant.

Imagine Academy Daycare, Preschool, Learning Center

2017-02-15_0007 1. Hello! It's so great to have you on the blog! I want start by asking you to introduce yourself, what sorts of things do you enjoy doing with your leisure time?

I love spending time with my three kids and husband Mark. Whether it's playing at the park, making creations at home, or reading to them! Mark is the Director of Bands at Laurel Highlands, so I love going to concerts and enjoying the high school's ensembles. I am also part of the school board, trying to make a difference for our district and community. Finally, I love to cook, bake and exercise in all my free time ;) !

2. So tell us a little bit about what you do, the services you offer and where your located.

We are a daycare and preschool center, housing children aged 6 weeks old all the way up to school aged. We provide care and early education for these little ones, and my amazing staff works so hard to make sure they are so very loved and learn through play, social interaction and our curriculum that prepares them for the big leap to kindergarten! We also are along the Marshall School bus route through Laurel Highlands School District, so we provide before and after school care for school aged children. We are located on North Gallatin Avenue Extension in Uniontown.

3. Aside from purposes of income, why do you do what you do? What do you enjoy most about your work?

I just love working with the children! Every part of my life involves the youth of the community, as I feel they're the most valuable asset we have! I love seeing them grow through the center--tiny babies that blossom into beautiful little young people that spread their wings out into the big world when they leave us. I want to provide the best foundation possible, and I firmly believe we do that here. I love meeting new families and making those community connections nurturing some of the youth of the county.

Imagine Academy exists to enhance and develop the emotional well-being and social development of our children, with a particular focus on the encouragement of a child’s natural imagination. Through our classrooms, we hope to develop social, ethical and intellectual skills, offering a variety of useful education explorations, while maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for children to thrive to their fullest potential.

5. Is there any ways in which your business gives back to the community?

Imagine Academy has various community service projects each month. We did our angel tree in December for a local nursing home and also had a toy drive. Our preschool students colore pictures for children at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. We aim for a service project each month and our families rise to the occasion every time. We believe there is so much value in teaching our youth to give back.

I am a very active person. I enjoy the outdoors and all it has to offer! I fish & hunt with my son Jackson and I mountain bike & rock climb with my son Brody. As a family we enjoy, water skiing, snow skiing, hiking, camping, traveling, swimming, bowling, and coaching my kids soccer, basketball and baseball teams. My newest hobby is running. I recently completed my first full marathon in January and have one on the books for March!

I am a chiropractor and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Our patients come to us with joint and back ailments from chronic symptoms such as headaches and back aches to acute injuries from car accidents and slip and falls. My team and I help our patients by skeletal adjusting, rehabilitative and supportive exercise, and education of nutritio to improve health. We promote health improvement, wellness and disease prevention through appropriate care and education. We also use essential oils, detoxing ionic foot bath and our newest endeavor, Hair Analysis to evaluate the vitamin and mineral levels in the body. I wanted to become a chiropractor since I was in Junior High. My grandfather was a medical doctor and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I knew early on that I wanted a more natural approach to healthcare and researched the different medical fields. Chiropractic was the answer. I am a people person by nature and this profession has allowed me to help people. There is so much joy in knowing that my life’s work has helped people to walk again, to smile again and become active again.

This past summer we initiated a free walking program called Walk with a Doc. We met monthly at Hutchinson Park and walked about forty- five minutes or 3-4 miles. It was a very well received program that is for anyone in the community. I work with various local sports team in my free time as well. For the month of March, we are offering a 10% discount on our Hair Analysis by mentioning this blog!

This week for our Featured Business Friday I met with entrepreneur, Paula Sova of the new downtown Uniontown bakery. Paula recently opened Paula’s Cookies and more, located on Historic 39 Beeson Blvd, PA. Paula offers an array of fresh cupcakes, cookies and cakes for any occasion. Paula’s quote is that “Life is what you bake it” and that why she does what she does. 2017-01-18_0003 Hey Claire! It's so great to have you as our first featured business on the blog! I want start by asking you to introduce yourself, what sorts of things do you enjoy doing with your leisure time?

First off, my name is Claire Basescu I was born and raised in Uniontown. I started in the beauty industry in 2012 and in January if 2016 I went off on my own as an independent stylist and makeup artist. As well as being in this industry I am also a full time college student majoring in teaching (prek-4 and dualing in special education). In the little free time I have I enjoy spending time with family and friends, working out, traveling and experiencing new things!

So tell us a little bit about what you do, the services you offer and where your located.

I work out of Michael Politos Hair studio located at 37 S Beeson in Uniontown. At the salon I offer services including: Color, cut, wax, styling as well as natural and airbrush makeup. I also work as a freelance makeup and stylist going on location for weddings, proms and other special events!

Aside from purposes of income, why do you do what you do? What do you enjoy most about your work?

One of my favorite parts of doing what I do is making others feel great about themselves. Whether it be a new cut and color or their makeup on their wedding day, seeing their reaction when they see each other for the first time is truly priceless! I also enjoy the creativity of my job and how each and every client is different.

Do you have a mission statement, or to put it more simply, do you have a mission in general when you think about completing your work?

I strive for my clients to be 100% satisfied with all of their services!

Is there any ways in which your business gives back to the community?

For the past year I have been an active member of FYPN (Fayette Young Professionals Network). I try to get involved in as many activities and fundraisers they have to offer. As well as being a member of FYPN, each year for prom I contact a local high school to ask if they have a student in mind who I could offer a free makeup and formal style for them for their prom night. I am always wanting to get more involved in the community and am always looking for ways I can give back more, any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Sam and Edwin had me smiling ear to ear all day. Lindsey & Billy | Married | Work Farms

I can't begin to explain the amount of incredible people, breath-taking florals, and overwhelming joy that encompassed this day. Lindsey and Billy got married on his family's farm, Bill Work Cattle Co. which not only made for a venue that meant a lot to them on their wedding day, but also for some incredibly gorgeous photos. Every detail was flawless, from the rolling hills that made for the perfect ceremony backdrop, to the jaw-dropping farm tables at the reception -- I was in awe more times than I could count. I couldn't be more happy for these two incredible people for finding their soul's mate and for their families.
